The state Democratic Party said nearly 75,000 participated in early caucusing, and that a majority of those people were caucusing for the first time. Turnout is set to be big for the caucuses. In 2016, about 84,000 people in total turned out.
The state Democratic Party is also doing its best not to leave anything to chance with the technology it is using for its caucuses. “Google — acutely aware that any failure of its product would be a high-profile disaster — has sent personnel to Las Vegas in case there are problems with the online spreadsheet application it provided to calculate caucus results,” The New York Times’ Reid Epstein and Sheera Frenkel wrote. “DigiDems, an incubator of technology talent for Democratic campaigns, also has officials and alumni on hand.” The party also released its training documentation, which includes details down to how to turn on an iPad.
