A moment of sanity?

Were the Republicans (at least 23 of them) hoping to avoid censure of their own? MTG herself was a target of a Democratic resolution to censure. It surprises me that 23 Republicans voted this way, but if they were hoping to avoid censure of MTG, it worked.  Perhaps it was even a deal made before the tabling. Greene wanted Tlaib censured for her remarks regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict.  Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vt) had introduced a resolution in July to censure Greene for being a hateful bitch.

The Retribution Caucus has won out

The House of Representatives has voted to censure Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff for his past actions while chair of the House Intelligence Committee in leading investigations into then-President Donald Trump.

The vote was entirely along party lines, with the California congressman calling the resolution "false and defamatory." Democrats attempted to kill the bill from advancing but were outvoted.

The resolution claims Schiff misled the American public over the course of congressional investigations into the Trump campaign's potential ties to Russia, given that other probes have not found conclusive evidence that Trump colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

Wednesday's vote came a week after nearly two dozen Republican House members voted alongside Democrats to table a similar motion that would have imposed a $16 million fine on Schiff. [Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla.] updated [her previous] resolution, which instead censures him and refers him to the House Ethics Committee for a probe, brought the Republicans on board who didn't support the measure last week.

The House last voted to censure a member in 2021, when Democrats were in control of the chamber. They issued a formal rebuke to Arizona GOP Rep. Paul Gosar for posting an anime-style video on social media that depicted the killing of Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.

Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has introduced impeachment resolutions targeting members of the Biden administration, and Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert has offered a privileged resolution to impeach Biden himself. It's unclear when potential votes on those resolutions would take place.

Surprise, surprise

Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia on Monday advocated for censuring President Donald Trump for the behavior exhibited in the two articles of impeachment passed by the House as opposed to voting to remove Trump from office.

Joe Manchin of all people.  I wouldn't have thought it. Of course, he probably wasn't planning on voting to remove.

In comments made on the Senate floor, Manchin said that he believes that a "bipartisan majority of this body would vote to censure President Trump," as opposed to voting to remove the President, which would require 67 votes, or at least 20 Republicans joining all 47 members who caucus with the Democrats.

Joe has a better view of the Republicans than I do.

Manchin, who is among a few Democrats from red or purple who could side with Republicans on impeachment, would not say which way he plans to go at Wednesday's scheduled vote on whether to acquit the President.

"I remain undecided on how I will vote," he said Monday.

I don't believe that.

A resolution unveiled by Manchin on Monday to censure Trump was not privileged, which means that the West Virginia Democrat would need to get an agreement from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to get a vote on it, something that is highly unlikely.

It's worse than highly unlikely. It's positively dead in the water.
