President Donald Trump’s stream of judges is about to become a torrent.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his GOP caucus have long prioritized confirming conservative judges to lifetime appointments. But they’re about to accelerate their ability to unilaterally approve many nominees in dramatic fashion.

The Senate is on track to confirm the 34th Circuit Court judge of Trump’s presidency in the next week and the GOP has three more ready for floor action; that would give Trump roughly 20 percent of the Circuit Court seats in the country after just two years in office. At this rate, McConnell and Trump could leave few, if any, vacancies there for a potential Democratic president in 2021.

Even more alarming for Democrats, the GOP is also preparing to pull the trigger on the “nuclear option” and change Senate rules once again with a simple majority to allow much quicker confirmation of lower court judges in the coming months.

President Donald Trump leveled his latest criticism of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday, slamming a federal judge's decision to temporarily block an executive order that would have changed US asylum policy.

"The 9th Circuit, we're going to have to look at that," Trump said, before adding that "every case" that goes through that circuit results in "an automatic loss" for his administration. "The 9th Circuit is very unfair."

The Trump administration's solicitor general, Noel Francisco, has moved aggressively to ask the Supreme Court to bypass certain appeals courts, including the 9th Circuit, particularly given recent conservative gains on the Supreme Court.

US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts pushed back on Wednesday against Donald Trump's description of a judge who ruled against the president's new asylum policy as an "Obama judge".

It's the first time that the Republican-appointed leader of the federal judiciary has offered even a hint of criticism of Trump, who has previously blasted federal judges who ruled against him.

Responding to a query made by the Associated Press, Roberts said, "We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges. What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them."

Roberts added that on the day before Thanksgiving that an "independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for".

The White House had no immediate comment on Roberts's remarks.

Maybe not, but Trump did.

The ruling Trump criticised that prompted Roberts's rebuke came from US District Judge Jon Tigar in San Francisco on Monday.

Tigar temporarily blocked the Trump administration from denying asylum to individuals who cross the US's border between official ports of entry.

After Tigar's ruling, Trump critcised the judge, calling him an "Obama judge" and the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals itself a "disgrace".

“Every case that gets filed in the 9th Circuit, we get beaten. And then we end up having to go to the Supreme Court, like the travel ban, and we won,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday.

Of course, Trump is right, and that's why he's packing the courts as fast as he can. And that's why Brett Kavanaugh sits on the Supreme Court. He just wasn't supposed to say out loud that he can go to the Supreme Court to "win" any case that he loses in the Circuit courts.  Especially so soon after getting Kavanaugh installed.

Meanwhile, in the 2nd Circuit case where the government is trying to require a citizenship question on census data....

President Trump on Friday suggested he could pull press credentials from other reporters who don't show him "respect."

The comments come two days after the president suspended the press pass of CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta after a contentious exchange during a news conference.

"I think Jim Acosta is a very unprofessional man," Trump said.

Asked how long Acosta's credentials will be suspended, the president replied: "As far as I'm concerned, I haven't made that decision. But it could be others also"

Trump also went after April Ryan of American Urban Radio Networks as a "loser" who "doesn't know what the hell she is doing."

Trump was asked by CNN's Abby Phillip if he was hoping Whitaker, a past critic of Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation, would "rein in" the Russia probe.

"Do you want [Whitaker] to rein in Robert Mueller?" Phillip asked.

"What a stupid question that is," Trump responded. "What a stupid question."

"But I watch you a lot," the president continued. "You ask a lot of stupid questions."

Declining to answer, Trump then walked away from the gaggle as Phillip and other reporters shouted questions in response.

And he calls Jim Acosta rude.

"I didn't speak to Matt Whitaker about it. I don't know Matt Whitaker," Trump told reporters at the White House before leaving for a trip to Paris.

He knows exactly who Matt Whitaker is and what Matt Whitaker is about.

Whitaker, who formerly served as chief of staff to ousted Attorney General Jeff Sessions, reportedly met with Trump roughly a dozen times in the Oval Office.

The president also rejected the notion that Whitaker is ineligible to serve as attorney general, a position held by some legal experts who say the Justice Department leader must be confirmed by the Senate.

Trump said Mueller wasn’t Senate confirmed, "so don’t talk to me about Whitaker."

Ignorant shit. Special counsels are not Senate approved. They're DOJ appointed. The AG is, however, subject to approval. (And, BTW, had Mueller been subject to approval, he would have had 100% of both parties, just like he did when they confirmed him to head the FBI - twice.)

President Trump slammed a federal judge’s late Thursday ruling that blocked the Keystone XL oil pipeline, calling it “a disgrace.”

“It was a political decision made by a judge. I think it’s a disgrace,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House Friday morning, heading to France.
