It's Sunday

Frank Sinatra was a mobster, but great speech.  I thought maybe he was playing a role in The House I Live In.  He was playing himself.  The movie was made at the end of WWII ostensibly to counter anti-semitism.  It was a little late for that.  I suspect Sinatra's role was more to put some distance between him and the Italian government's role in the war, so his career didn't suffer.

Of course, we know assholes can sometimes say the right things.

Hegseth can't get no respect

This is the third clip of the hearing I've seen where a Democratic lawmaker told Hegseth he should resign.  Maybe they all did.

I don't know who this Congressman is, but he doesn't even give the Secretary of Defense the courtesy of calling him Mr. Secretary.  Or even Mr. anything.  He just calls him "Hegseth".

Of course Hegseth doesn't deserve any consideraiton.  He is one of the most unqualified members of the cabinet currently serving.

UPDATE 06/18/2025:

He also gives no respect.

The destruction of Twitter is almost complete

Technically, I think it was because they put IBM advertising next to Nazi advertising.  At any rate, Musk paid over $40B for Twitter, which he is consistently turning into a hotbed of MAGA garbage.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.

Elon Musk has said he will be filing a “thermonuclear lawsuit” against Media Matters and others, after major US companies paused their adverts on his social media site over concerns about antisemitism.

The media watchdog Media Matters said earlier this week that it found corporate advertisements by IBM, Apple, Oracle and Comcast’s Xfinity were being placed alongside antisemitic content, including that praising Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

It led to a number of big names in technology and media announcing they would be withdrawing their advertising.

Well, if they got screenshots, his bomb will fizzle.
Musk on Wednesday agreed with a post on X that falsely claimed Jewish people were stoking hatred against white people, saying the user, who referenced the “great replacement” conspiracy theory, was speaking “the actual truth”.

We are failing as a nation

Ask him again.

h/t Stephen

Yep, another Karl Rove acolyte.

This troll is the philosophical heir to Joseph McCarthy.  And unfortunately, she has plenty of company in the current GOP.

Here's her problem with Roth:  "He permanently banned my Twitter account for a year during my election."

Leave aside how a year is not permanent, this woman is the worst kind of troll - an anti-semitic rabble rouser.  Roth can expect death threats, and maybe attempts.

He has already been harassed to the point of selling his home and moving.
[Roth] began by saying that the "Twitter Files" also affected more junior employees at Twitter, and that staff as far away as the Philippines were "doxxed, had their families threatened, and experienced harm equal to or greater than what I've experienced."

He added: "But concurrent with the 'Twitter Files,' Elon Musk also made the decision to share a defamatory allegation that I support or condone pedophilia and this lie led directly to a wave of homophobic and antisemitic threats and harassment against me of which Twitter has removed vanishingly little.

  MSN
The "Committee" is now hounding him over his role at Twitter to the tune of Joe McCarthy's House UnAmerican Activities Committee in the 50s. We're in another very dark period of our country's history. I don't know how we get out of it.

UPDATE 10:52 am:

Hunter Biden may have some shit to answer for, but I do hope his lawyers make this GOP obsession very costly.

Right up front

Inexplicably wearing a face mask over his entire head, [Kanye West] who last month met with former President Trump and white supremacist Nick Fuentes left little doubt how he feels about Jews.

“I see good things about Hitler,” West said on Jones’ “Infowars” show. “Jewish people are not going to tell me: ‘You can’t say out loud that this person ever did anything good.’ I’m done with that.”

“I like Hitler,” West added.

[...]

“The Jewish media has made us feel like Nazis and Hitler have never offered us anything of value to the world,” West said.

  Baltimore Sun
“You’re not Hitler,” Jones said. “You're not a Nazi.”

“Well, I see good things about Hitler,” Ye said, later adding: “Every human being has value that they brought to the table, especially Hitler.”

[...]

“They did good things too,” Ye said. “We’ve got to stop dissing the Nazis all the time.”

[...]

Jones appeared to be caught off-guard by the vitriol of Ye’s antisemitic remarks, at one point questioning whether Ye was even behind the mask.

“I don't like Nazis,” Jones said.

“I like Hitler,” Ye replied.

"Our wonderful Evangelicals" are concerned for the Jews in Israel only.  And only because they are looking for the signs that tell them the situation in Israel is ready for the supposed second coming of Christ and the Rapture, which will NOT include Jews.  Only evangelicals.  (Does Trump know that?)  Otherwise, "our wonderful Evangelicals" despise the Jews as Jesus' murderers.  The ramping up of anti-Semitism among Republicans and Trump supporters ought to at least be a clue.

Why are we repeating the 30's in Germany?y.

Victor Orban is their model

In a speech over the weekend to supporters in Romania, Orban railed against a “flood” of migrants being “forced” on Hungary. He said he wanted to prevent Hungary from becoming a “mixed-race” country, adding that countries with a high level of racial mixing are no longer countries. Zsuzsanna Hegedus, who is Jewish and his long-time ally and adviser, resigned. The Romanian foreign minister also criticized the remarks.

[...]

Hegedus in a letter published by the hvg.hu news website said, “I don’t know how you didn’t notice that the speech you delivered is a purely Nazi diatribe worthy of Joseph Goebbels,” referring to Adolf Hitler’s chief propagandist. The speech would have appealed to the “most vile racists,” she wrote.

[Orban] is due to speak next week at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Dallas.

It's Sunday

Some years ago, I had a premonition that we were going to have to repeat the Hitler era, and I thought: we'd better get it right this time.  I'm not at all sure we will.  At the time, I thought it would happen sooner, but here we are now.  It's coming.  We already have proof that Trump world is violent, now I think we'll see just how anti-Semitic it is.
The chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League led condemnation of Donald Trump after the former president used antisemitic tropes in remarks about American Jews and Israel.

“Insinuating that Israel or the Jews control Congress or the media is antisemitic, plain and simple,” Jonathan Greenblatt said. “Unfortunately, this is not the first time he has made these offensive remarks.”

Trump was speaking to the journalist Barak Ravid, author of a book on Trump and the Middle East. Parts of the interview aired on Friday on a podcast, Unholy: Two Jews on the News.

“It’s a very dangerous thing that’s happening,” Trump said. “There’s people in this country that are Jewish and no longer love Israel. I’ll tell you, the evangelical Christians love Israel more than the Jews in this country.”

  Guardian
And with those words, they've just been given the exoneration to start seriously attacking Jews, people they've always harbored disdain for - after all, the Jews killed Jesus.

Because of course he did

A former speechwriter fired from the White House in 2018 for attending a conference at which white supremacists were also present has been appointed to a commission tasked with preserving Holocaust-related sites across Europe.

The former speechwriter, Darren Beattie, will join the Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad.

[...]

Over the course of his presidency, Trump has stocked various boards, councils and commissions with functionaries who seem antithetical to the work of the federal government. One of his appointments to the board of Amtrak, for example, was Todd Rokita, a former Indiana congressman who opposed Amtrak funding.

[...]

[Beattie's] appointment comes shortly after Beattie, in comments made on Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s show, compared supposed efforts to oust President Trump to the “color revolutions” that defeated authoritarian leaders across Eastern Europe. Beattie said those efforts were being engineered by Norm Eisen, an ethics attorney who served in the Obama administration.

Beattie has also suggested that George Soros was behind attempts to remove Trump from office, though the financier and philanthropist’s efforts constitute little more than the kind of ordinary political contributions that both sides routinely engage in.
George Soros - a Jew.
Beattie’s three-year term on the commission gives him, like other Trump appointees, a foothold in the federal bureaucracy long after President-elect Joe Biden takes office.

[...]

The Anti-Defamation League, which was founded to combat anti-Semitism and other forms of hatred, called on Trump to “immediately rescind” the appointment. “It is absolutely outrageous that someone who has consorted with racists would even be considered for a position on a commission devoted to preserving Holocaust memorials in Europe,” said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt in a statement.

[...]

Beattie, who describes himself as Jewish, in many ways embodies Trump’s complicated relationship with American Jews. Although the president has been popular with Israelis, American Jews overwhelmingly voted for Biden in this month’s election.

[...]

Beattie’s own convictions appear to track closely with those of Stephen Miller, with whom he worked at the White House.

According to an online biography from 2019, Beattie is “currently writing a book in defense of Trumpist Nationalism.” [...]

Another of the appointments announced on Tuesday was that of Jackie Gingrich Cushman to the Adams Memorial Commission, which is working to establish a monument to John Adams, the nation’s second president.

Gingrich Cushman is the daughter of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
