Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) announced on Thursday afternoon that the Missouri Highway Patrol would be taking over security operations in Ferguson.

Maybe it's true of all states. I don't know. But I do know that in Missouri, there is a world of difference between the caliber of officer and their demeanor and approach between Highway Patrol and Police. I once had an HP officer explain it to me this way: "We are often patroling remote areas, and we are patroling alone. We cannot afford to make stupid mistakes or behave in ways that escalate a situation."
