Trump 2.0 - The king sets prices on goods sold in America

Once again, we see that he DOES understand how tariffs work. He wants companies to "eat the tariffs" - meaning, he knows the other countries don't pay them.

Tighten your belts, MAGA

The world's largest retailer, which had pledged to hold the line on pricing, said it was now too late to avoid higher costs for consumers, even with the China trade deal earlier this week.

[...]

Consumers could see prices increase as soon as the end of May, John David Rainey, Walmart's chief financial officer, said in a CNBC interview Thursday.

"We're wired for everyday low prices, but the magnitude of these increases is more than any retailer can absorb," Rainey said. "It's more than any supplier can absorb and so I'm concerned that consumer is going to start seeing higher prices.

  Axios
If fucking Walmart doesn't think they have enough wealth to absorb prices, who does?

JFC this woman

1) What sex toys are at Walmart?  Is she talking about the personal vibrators?  If those are sold in stores, I would be surprised to find them next to children's toobrushes. Maybe she's talking about handheld massagers? Or is she talking about "personal groomers" aka shaving kits?
2) Are they complaining about the sale of sex toys or that they're being sold "right next to children's toothbrushes"?
3) If any of this is true, how on earth is it grooming?  Are children buying their own toothbrushes?
4) Odds are NO ONE in her district has reached out to her about sex toys in the Dalton store.
5) This woman is becoming increasingly insane, or merely acting increasingly insane.

Mother nature using Walmart distribution to rid herself of human scourge

Four cases of a serious, sometimes fatal infection called melioidosis that have bedeviled public health investigators for months appear to have been linked to an aromatherapy room spray sold at Walmart.

[...]

The product, Better Homes and Gardens Lavender and Chamomile Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray with Gemstones, was sold at 55 Walmart locations and on the company’s website from February to Oct. 21. Walmart has issued a recall for roughly 3,900 bottles of the product that it sold. The recall includes five other scents of the Better Homes and Gardens Gem Room Spray: lemon and mandarin, lavender, peppermint, lime and eucalyptus, and sandalwood and vanilla.

[...]

The bottle tested positive for contamination with Burkholderia pseudomallei, the bacterium that causes melioidosis. It is commonly found in soil and water in parts of South and Southeastern Asia, and northern Australia, but not in the continental United States, where it’s classified as a dangerous pathogen that could threaten public health.

[...]

The euphoria of finding the source of the bacteria was quickly dampened by the realization that the product was something being sold at Walmart, McQuiston said.

“We were very concerned when we found this bacteria in this bottle and began to imagine what the distribution number might look like across the United States,” she said. But then came some good news: Walmart revealed that the product was new to the chain and being sold as a test in a limited number of stores. Furthermore, not much of the product — at least not in Walmart terms — had been sold.

McQuiston said the CDC has been working with Walmart and the product’s manufacturer to see, among other things, whether the manufacturer makes other products that might be contaminated. That work continues.

[...]

The CDC is suggesting that people who have used the product in the past 21 days who have symptoms consistent with melioidosis should seek medical care and tell the attending doctor about the aromatherapy spray exposure. People who have no symptoms but have used the spray in the past seven days should also see a doctor, who may prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection, the CDC said.

[...]

People should not dispose of the product themselves — doing so could spread the bacteria further. Instead, they should double bag bottles in clear plastic bags, place them in a small box and return them Walmart.

Sure. That shit's already been thrown out.
Agency officials advised that any sheets or linens sprayed with the product should be washed and dried in a hot dryer, with bleach if desired. Surfaces the product might have been sprayed on should be cleaned with an undiluted disinfectant. People should wash their hands thoroughly after performing these tasks.

About a dozen cases of melioidosis are discovered in this country in any given year; they are almost always seen in people who have returned from traveling in Southeast Asia or northern Australia, where the bacteria are found in soil and water. People contract melioidosis by exposure to the bacteria via cuts in the skin or by consuming food or water contaminated with the bacteria.

Melioidosis has an estimated fatality rate of between 10% and 50%. People with some health conditions are at greater risk of severe if they contract the illness; those health conditions include diabetes, alcoholism, kidney disease, and chronic lung disease.

[...]

There are four types of infection: localized, in the lungs, bloodstream infection, or disseminated infection, in which a localized infection spreads to another part of the body. Treatment depends on the type of infection, but consists of oral or intravenous antibiotics.

Melioidosis symptoms may include localized pain or swelling, fever or high fever, skin ulcers or abscesses, cough, chest pain, headache, anorexia, respiratory distress, abdominal discomfort, joint pain, disorientation, weight loss, stomach or chest pain, muscle or joint pain, and seizures, the CDC website states.
Pretty much anything then.

This could be explosive - literally

Good for them.  I feel sorry for their employees.
“We know it may not be possible for everyone to wear a face covering. Our associates will be trained on those exceptions to help reduce friction for the shopper and make the process as easy as possible for everyone,” Smith and de la Rosa wrote.

[...]

Walmart created a health ambassador position for each store and will station them near the entrance of stores, along with clear signage, to remind people without a mask of the policy. The ambassadors will receive special training and be identifiable by black polo shirts.

Walmart is doing great!

Especially when Walmart is notorious for hiring part-time employees to job share as a way to avoid offering benefits and higher wages.

Why Walmart?

Are Walmarts going to have to hire armed guards? Will they lose any business?
Police say a man was arrested Thursday after he showed up at a Springfield [Missouri] Walmart store with a loaded rifle and a bulletproof vest.

[...]

Lucas said the man showed up to the business with body armor and military-style clothing and then walked inside carrying a “tactical rifle” and another gun.

As shoppers were panicking and fleeing the store, Lucas said the man was taking video on his phone and making comments to people while pushing a shopping cart.

[...]

Lucas said the suspect then walked out of the store, where an off-duty firefighter held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived moments later.

The suspect, a 20-year-old white man, was arrested, but Lucas said police are still working to determine his motives and whether or not he intended to shoot anyone.

 [...]

Thursday’s incident comes five days after a gunman opened fire at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, killing 22 people.

  Springfield News-Leader
I understand Walmart is not going to display violent video games any longer, but they are going to continue selling guns.

UPDATE 8/11:

Democrats should be using this in their campaigns

Walmart said last month that it will do everything it can to maintain the low prices it’s famous for, such as negotiating with suppliers and finding new sources of manufacturing outside of China. “We’re going to do the best we can to manage through this in a way that our customers don’t feel it, pulling all the levers that we’ve got,” Chief Executive Officer Doug McMillon said in a presentation to analysts last week.

But Walmart has warned that higher prices on some items, such as bicycles, are inevitable. “Increased tariffs lead to increased prices,” Chief Financial Officer Brett Biggs said in a May 16 interview.

That's going to pinch

Walmart warned Thursday that it will have to raise prices on its products after the Trump administration slapped additional tariffs on goods imported from China.

“We’re monitoring the tariff discussions and are hopeful that an agreement can be reached,” the retail giant's chief financial officer, Brett Biggs, told The Associated Press, adding that increased tariffs "will lead to increased prices for our customers.”

[...]

Walmart did not specify the scope of the price hikes, but the warning was echoed by Macy’s CEO, Jeff Gennette, who reportedly told investors that prices for both store label and national brands could rise if another round of tariffs are slapped on China.

  The Hill
But the president says China would be paying.
Walmart’s vendors have already started raising prices, including Del Monte, which supplies fresh and packaged goods to Walmart, including mandarin oranges imported from China.

“It’s not just tariffs. Transportation costs are up, labor costs are up. It’s an inflationary environment,” Del Monte CEO Greg Longstreet told Reuters. “A lot of that’s going to have to be passed on. The consumer is going to have to pay more for a lot of critical goods.”
All this winning.

When Trump campaigned that there'd be so much winning we'd beg him to stop, turns out he was half right.

Now THAT's the way to support Trump

Get ready for a Trump tweet crowing about this.
Walmart is boosting starting wages, providing a one-time bonus for employees and expanding benefits, the company said in a press release on Thursday, citing the tax cuts signed into law by President Trump last year. The plan benefits more than a million employees, the company told Axios.

The bonus is based on length of service, with those who've worked 20 years eligible for $1,000. The company, which is the largest private employer in the U.S. and employs roughly 2.2 million people worldwide, is also raising its starting wage to $11 an hour. The current starting wage for store associates is $9 an hour.

  Axios
A whole $11/hr. My god! Can Walmart afford that?

I wonder if they'll be providing some full-time positions with benefits. Okay, that's over the top.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.

UPDATE:

They're shutting down a bunch of Sam's Stores, too. That should help offset those pay raises.

Jesus. These people.

Walmart's Cynical Slip Is Showing Again

An ongoing investigation of popular herbal supplements subjected to DNA testing has found numerous store brand supplements aren’t what their labels claim to be, New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman said on Tuesday.

[...]

Overall, just 21% of the test results from store brand herbal supplements verified DNA from the plants listed on the labels. The retailer with the poorest showing was Walmart. Only 4% of the Walmart products tested showed DNA from the plants listed on the labels.

[...]

Contaminants identified include rice, beans, pine, citrus, asparagus, primrose, wheat, houseplant and wild carrot. In many cases, unlisted contaminants were the only plant material found in the product samples.

[...]

Walmart spokesman Brian Nick said the company is immediately reaching out to suppliers of the products and will take appropriate action.
