How's that "little excursion" going?

And Bibi has said he's not stopping.

Yeah, he probably shouldn't have put his threat to bomb Iran's energy sources and desalination plants as far out as April 6.  He could have just put it at March 30, and then later at April 6, getting two market manipulation opportunities to make millions on insider trading.

Iran attack, day 3

The war launched by the U.S. and Israel on Iran entered its third day with more Iranian missile attacks directed at Israel and its Arab neighbors as the U.S. military death toll climbed to four. The strikes have also killed at least 11 people in Israel, and the Iranian Red Crescent says 555 people have been killed in Iran.

Kuwait shot down three U.S. F-15s in what CENTCOM calls a "friendly fire incident," but all crewmembers were safe. Smoke rose, meanwhile, from the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait after an apparent Iranian missile strike.

Air travel is snarled as the war forces the closure of key hub airports in the Mideast, leaving tens of thousands of people stranded in the Gulf region — as the U.S. declines to join other countries planning to help evacuate their citizens.

President Trump said Sunday that the joint military operation would continue "until all of our objectives are achieved," and that could be "four weeks or less," but that more American casualties are possible.

[...]

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his administration was coordinating with its international partners to monitor events in Iran, calling it "important that this chance for change for Iran be used properly."

"The Iranian people have long effectively been alone against violence — against the Iranian regime. This regime, which has killed tens of thousands of its own citizens just in recent months, which has always fueled and organized wars in the region, which provided Russia with 'shaheds' [drones] and the technology for their production — this regime has brought this attitude upon itself," Zelenskyy said in a social media post.

"It is important that there be a clear position in support of people and human life," he added, offering his personal thanks to "everyone who is trying to prevent the war from expanding and who is defending against strikes from Iran."

"I also thank everyone who tells Russia — now, based on the experience of the Iranian regime — that justice does come," Zelenskyy said.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters Monday that the four American service members who were killed over the weekend died when an incoming munition hit a tactical operations center in Kuwait.

"We have incredible air defenders. Every once in a while you might have one, unfortunately we call it a squirter, that makes its way through," he said. "And in that particular case, it happened to hit a tactical operations center that was fortified, but these are powerful weapons."

  CBS
You can just feel the compassion and empathy.  A squirter.

Hegseth was also asked about Mr. Trump's estimate that the conflict could last four to five weeks, and he attacked the reporter who posed the question, claiming it's a "gotcha-type question."
How? A bit touchy, Pete?
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine offered his "deepest and heartfelt condolences" to the families of the four U.S. service members killed during the joint U.S.-Israeli assault on Iran.

"They're heroes and represent the best our nation has to offer," Caine said.

Caine said it would "take some time to achieve" the objectives of the U.S. military operation, and he warned it was likely that more American lives would be lost.
No shit. But they will be a great deal fewer than Iranian civilians.
"Operations will remain active across the theater and across the globe," he said. "Operation Epic Fury stands as a reminder of what the United States military uniquely delivers: the ability to project power on a global scale with speed, surprise, precision and overwhelming force when and where our nation requires it."
Provided friendly fire doesn't continue.

And, the evergreen response Republicans make whenever the US attacks another country is brought to you this time by Representative Keith Self of Texas...

But that's not stopping Trumpists from claiming that very thing on national TV and in social media.

And because he was egged on by his administration lackeys and Netanyahu.

UPDATE 02:31 pm:

I suspect that's the mood in every US agency since Trump got back in the oval.

I think he mostly spends his time scrolling through alt-right social media and watching alt-right TV.

Friendly fire?

Apocalypse now

Traffic lights are out in Lisbon, planes are stuck at airports and tennis was suspended at the Madrid Open today as an unexplained and widespread power outage caused chaos across the Iberian Peninsula, plunging much of Spain and Portugal into darkness.

Spanish public service broadcaster RTVE reported that the outage hit just after midday local time (6 a.m. ET), leaving its own newsroom in the dark as well as Madrid's subway stations and the Spanish parliament building.

Spanish electricity grid operator Red Electrica said in a statement that it was working with energy companies to restore power and was gradually beginning to recover power in the north and south of the peninsula.

The two countries have a combined population of 50 million and it is unclear how many people are affected.

[...]

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said today that there is no "conclusive information" on the cause of the power blackout.

"It is better not to speculate. We will know the causes. We do not rule out any hypothesis, but now we must focus on the most important thing, which is to restore electricity to our homes," he added.

Sánchez emphasized that there is no evidence of civil protection issues or national insecurity. He urged the public to use their cellphones responsibly, only for short calls, and to use the emergency phone line, 112, only when necessary.

I don't know. This seems nationally insecure to me.

Nobody better tell Himself

Last week, Spanish virologists announced they had found traces of [Covid-19] in samples of waste water collected in March 2019, nine months before the coronavirus disease was seen in China.

[...]

There was a case in the Falkland Islands in early February. Now where did that come from? There was a cruise ship that went from South Georgia to Buenos Aires, and the passengers were screened and then on day eight, when they started sailing towards the Weddell Sea, they got the first case.

Spain is adjusting to reality

Spanish Economy Minister Nadia Calvino said the coronavirus-stricken nation intends to implement a universal basic income program as soon as possible to blunt the pandemic’s economic impact.

[...]

While the immediate goal of the program will be to provide relief to families that have lost income due to virus-related lockdowns, the country is developing it with an eye toward making it a resource “that stays forever, that becomes a structural instrument, a permanent instrument,” she said, according to Bloomberg.

Spain’s virus outbreak is the second-worst in Europe behind Italy.

[...]

The Spanish government has implemented numerous relief policies for companies and self-employed workers affected by pandemic-related closures and said more will likely be necessary.

World shutting down

Spain now has more deaths from covid-19 than China (but half of Italy's toll - 6,820), Prince Charles has tested positive, New Zealand and India announced they're now on lockdown, Japan has nixed the Olympics, and Trump wants to lift restrictions by Easter.

USA! USA! USA!

By Sunday night, the US had overtaken Spain to become the third most-affected country, behind China and Italy.

[...]

Bill de Blasio, the mayor of New York City, said hospital supplies including ventilators, masks and surgical gloves would be exhausted within 10 days, while Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York state, warned that up to 80% of his state’s population of almost 20 million was at risk of contracting the virus.

Product of a medieval Jurassic mind

Build a wall!
Donald Trump suggested the Spanish government tackled the Mediterranean migration crisis by emulating one of his most famous policies and building a wall across the Sahara desert, the country’s foreign minister has revealed.

According to Josep Borrell, the US president brushed off the scepticism of Spanish diplomats – who pointed out that the Sahara stretched for 3,000 miles – saying: “The Sahara border can’t be bigger than our border with Mexico.”

  Guardian
Jesus, what a dingleberry.

Another small problem:
Spain holds only two small enclaves in north Africa – Ceuta and Melilla – and such a wall would have to be built on foreign territory.
And one more:
Spain has found itself on the frontlines of the migration crisis, with more than 33,600 migrants and refugees arriving by sea so far this year, and 1,723 dying in the attempt.
He hasn't even considered the sea route problem for OUR country. He really has the mind of a two-year-old. Which gives me an idea: just cover his eyes and he'll think the immigrants have disappeared.
Borrell, a former president of the European parliament, has previously accused Europe of “ostrich politics” over migration and called for perspective on the matter. “We’re talking about 20,000 migrants so far this year for a country of more than 40 million inhabitants,” he said in July. “That’s not mass migration.”

He also said Spain’s problems were dwarfed by those of some Middle Eastern countries hosting refugees from the war in Syria, adding: “We’re trivialising the word ‘mass’.”

[...]

“We’ve sorted the economic problem, but not the migration problem because it’s an emotional problem and not one you fix with money,” he said, according to reports by El País and Europa Press. “European societies aren’t structured to absorb more than a certain percentage of migrants, especially if they are Muslims.”
And it's always couched as an economical (plus religious) problem for the emigrant country. Rarely are there reports on the problems of the immigrants that drive them. One might imagine that, if spent some time and money on preventing what's causing them to emigrate, everyone might be better off. Content people able to make decent lives don't typically want to leave their homes for a foreign country.

Well THAT Didn't Take Two Days

He famously claimed he didn't condemn the terror attack in Charlottesville because "unlike other politicians" he wanted to wait to get all the facts. It takes two days to get all the facts to Bedminster, New Jersey from Virginia, but only a few hours to get them from Spain. Go figger.

I think he's just rubbing people's faces in his shit now.

If you want to know what Trump gets from his Twitter feed, Philip Bump made a program to do just that.  Yes, it's all alt-right crap.
