First the Haitians, now the Salvadorans

The move, announced on Monday by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), gave Salvadoran holders of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) until September 9, 2019, to leave or find a legal way to stay in the country.

The US government had originally granted Salvadorans special protection status after two earthquakes killed nearly 8,000 people in 2001.

"Based on careful consideration of available information, including recommendations received as part of an inter-agency consultation process, the Secretary determined that the original conditions caused by the 2001 earthquakes no longer exist," the DHS said in a statement.

In its statement, the DHS also said it had determined that El Salvador could successfully reintegrate its nationals.

"Three hundred people leave El Salvador daily as migrants in search of a better future," argued Edwin Murillo, who lives in the US state of Texas but is originally from San Salvador.

"If 300 people are leaving daily, because the living conditions are not suitable, then how is it possible that the Trump administration has decided to force thousands of Salvadorans to return?"

US response, probably: That's not our problem.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.

This is personal

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney unleashed an insult-laden tirade against President Donald Trump on Wednesday, denouncing the Trump administration's decision to end protections for Haitians and other immigrants living in the United States.

[...]

"I'm just beside myself with sadness because our president is a bully, our president is a punk, and he just doesn't get it."

"I don't know where he was raised, but his family didn't do a good job raising that guy," Kenney said.

I believe I was just wondering about that myself.  But Mr. Kenney is about to be slam tweeted from the Winter White House when this goes from NBC to CNN and Fox.
Kenney made the remarks after calling on the Trump Administration to reverse recent decisions to end Temporary Protective Status for Haitians, Sudanese, and Nicaraguans. Hondurans are still awaiting a decision on their status.

Often abbreviated as TPS, the program was created in 1990 and currently allows for 435,000 people from nine countries affected by natural disasters or war to live and work in the United States.

Kenney said the decisions are "simply un-American." He said deporting these immigrants will be a detrement to the local economy.
Not to mention to the deportees.
The mayor also questioned what would happen to TPS immigrant children, who were born in the U.S. and thus are citizens.

"This country used to be a country of compassion and empathy and it is now a country of anger and divisiveness and Donald Trump is the reason why we've gotten where we are," Kenney said adding that Trump should "get out" of the U.S.
I don't think he's the reason - I think he's the result. But I'll vote for him to get out.

Kenney comments video here if you want to watch.  You can tell he's sad and sickened; it's a very downbeat speech.  At the end he tells his audience, "Let's just stick together and keep helping each other out, regardless of what happens in Washington."
