The GOP is truly full of shit

That whistleblower that Jim Comer couldn't find?
Okay, so you know how Comer and his band of dipshits have been hee-hawing for months about their top secret whistleblower? The one who can prove that Hunter Biden and Joe Biden took all the bribes from China? They couldn't produce him because REASONS, and in May our pal Jamie took his big square head over to Fox to tell that big airhead Maria Bartiromo that his informant was lost.

"Well, unfortunately we can't track down the informant. We are hopeful that the informant is still there. The whistleblower knows the informant, the whistleblower is very credible," he told the credulous Fox host, who briefly demonstrated signs of mild skepticism, before reverting to form.

"Who in the White House is intimidating these people? Do you know?" she gasped.

"I do know," Comer assured her. "We're saving that for a later time."

  Wonkette
Hahaha. They're not very good at making up credible stories.
[On July 10] that "informant" outed himself, running to that bastion of good journalism, the New York Post, claiming to be on the run from the US government, bent on silencing him.

Gal Luft, a dual American-Israeli citizen, headed a "think tank" called the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security in DC. In the video, Luft alleges that in the course of doing very serious thought leader stuff with a Chinese energy conglomerate known as CEFC, he discovered that Hunter Biden was also doing stuff with the company, but of the bad LOCK HER UP variety. He says that he blew the whistle last year to the FBI, after which he was indicted, made bail in Cyprus, and then went on the lam for his own safety.

[...]

To which the DOJ said "Bet!" and immediately unsealed the indictment against Luft.

[...]

Luft is alleged to have conspired to traffic weapons and Iranian oil, in addition to violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). And while the weapons and oil may be more serious from a criminal perspective, Luft's FARA scheme is most interesting politically.

Broadly speaking, Luft coordinated with Chinese agents to pay former CIA Director James Woolsey to author pro-China editorials in Chinese news outlets during the 2016 election and its aftermath. Woolsey was then an advisor to the Trump campaign, and when Trump won the election, Luft and his Chinese backers were ecstatic.

[...]

[W]e can't help but note that Trump, whose supporters have been screaming nonsense about Biden's supposed ties to China, was being advised by a guy who was literally being paid by a Chinese agent to publish articles praising the CCP.
As we always say, every accusation is a confession.Continue reading.

Still more laptop "whistleblower" bullshit

U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss said he never requested special counsel authority during his probe of Hunter Biden, directly countering claims from an IRS whistleblower and House Republicans who said he was blocked from aggressively pursuing the case.

The letter, sent to Senate Judiciary Ranking Member Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), disputes testimony from IRS investigator Gary Shapley, who worked on the Biden investigation and said Weiss was denied special counsel status.

Shapley also said Weiss was barred from bringing charges in D.C., where he claimed prosecutors would have been able to bring the strongest case.

Echoing earlier statements that he had total control over the investigation, Weiss’s Monday letter is his clearest language yet in pushing back on Shapley’s testimony.

Jim Jordan is a horrible person

A former acting CIA director has admitted to Congress that he organized the letter that falsely portrayed Hunter Biden's laptop as Russian disinformation in an effort to influence the 2020 election in favor of Joe Biden and that he did so at the direction of current Secretary of State Antony Blinken, according to a letter released Thursday by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan.

The extraordinary admission by career intelligence officer Michael J. Morell provides stunning evidence that the now-infamous letter from 51 security officials in October 2020 was not an organic intelligence community initiative but rather a political dirty trick originating with Blinken and the Biden campaign.

Jordan sent a letter demanding Blinken answer a series of questions about Morell's stunning testimony, as lawmakers weighed the enormity of America's top diplomat being willing to accuse a nuclear-armed superpower of interfering in the 2020 election without evidence. That letter included major snippets of Morell's testimony.

  Just the News
Jim Jordan’s Hunter Biden investigation is failing badly, so he and his fellow House Republicans are trying to invent evidence to give them justification for investigating President Biden, but Democrats caught them in the act and provided the nation with the truth, as the GOP’s Hunter Biden investigations are going nowhere.

[...]

Jordan and House Judiciary Republicans got caught editing witness interviews to smear the Sec. of State and push their Hunter Biden laptop scandal.

  Politicus USA
Jordan released a statement on Thursday claiming that during “a transcribed interview with Michael Morell, a former Deputy Director of the CIA,” Morell revealed that [Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was then working for the Biden campaign,] helped to orchestrate a letter signed by dozens of national security officials casting doubt on the authenticity of the Hunter Biden laptop ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

[...]

Jordan’s claims of Blinken’s involvement in the Hunter Biden letter quickly sparked headlines across the media.

[...]

Democrats hit back at that accusation and published a segment of the transcript of Morell’s testimony to underscore their claim.

“In an effort to smear Secretary Blinken and sensationalize a three-year-old tabloid story, Jim Jordan has released cherry-picked excerpts of a transcribed interview. To be clear, no part of that interview demonstrates that Tony Blinken or any other Biden campaign official asked Mike Morell to write a letter about Hunter Biden’s laptop,” said a Judiciary Committee spokesman in a statement for the Democrats.

“At no point during his interview did Mr. Morell testify that Secretary Blinken directed or asked him to write any letters. Instead, Mr. Morell testified that Mr. Blinken sought his advice, as many others have.”

[...]

The statement [...] included a copy of the transcript from Morell’s interview before the committee.

Self-owning Republican committee

Despite their own past behavior, Republicans are using their newfound control of the House to probe Democrats’ and federal law enforcement agencies’ interaction with Twitter.

[...]

WHEN THE WHITE House called up Twitter in the early morning hours of September 9, 2019, officials had what they believed was a serious issue to report: Famous model Chrissy Teigen had just called President Donald Trump “a pussy ass bitch” on Twitter — and the White House wanted the tweet to come down.

That exchange — revealed during Wednesday’s House Oversight Committee hearing on Twitter by Rep. Gerry Connolly — and others like it are nowhere to be found in Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files” releases, which have focused almost exclusively on requests from Democrats and the feds to the social media company. The newly empowered Republican majority in the House of Representatives is now devoting significant resources and time to investigating this supposed “collusion” between liberal politicians and Twitter.

  Rolling Stone
Ooops.
The Trump administration and its allied Republicans in Congress routinely asked Twitter to take down posts they objected to — the exact behavior that they’re claiming makes President Biden, the Democrats, and Twitter complicit in an anti-free speech conspiracy to muzzle conservatives online.

[...]

But during both the Trump and Biden presidencies, these types of moderation requests or demands were routinely sent to Twitter by the staff of influential GOP lawmakers — ones with names like Kevin McCarthy and Elise Stefanik.

[...]

The obvious irony here is, the sources note, that Republican leaders and elected officials have long been committing precisely the kind of “government interference” that they are now investigating, fundraising off of, and accusing Democrats and the so-called anti-Trump “Deep State” of perpetrating. Some of the loudest conservative and MAGA voices on Capitol Hill — who’ve been endlessly demanding taxpayer-funded, high-profile investigations into Big Tech “bias” and “collusion” — were themselves engaged in the behavior they now claim is colluding.
I wonder if Matt Taibbi and Jonathan Turley - or indeed, Elon Musk himself - will have anything to say.

The Age of Angry Torpor has descended on us all.

[...]

The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability had its first chance to air out its chuckleheaded conspiracy tales about Twitter's "suppression" of the news about Hunter Biden's laptop. It took up most of the legislative day on Wednesday.

[...]

When Rep. Lauren Boebert threatened a witnesses with arrest and prosecution for...something...and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asked Comer if he didn't think this violated committee protocols on witness intimidation, Comer fumbled and foozled around until an aide at his shoulder prompted him to reply, “We don't agree there was witness threatening.” (He couldn't come up with that on his own?)

[...]

Comer put a blow-up of the NYP front page in question behind his chair. That story speculated that the laptop contained evidence that Joe Biden had gotten a Ukrainian prosecutor fired because the man was closing in on one of Hunter's business partners. This, you may recall, was the primary red herring Republicans tossed out as an alternate theory of the crime during Impeachment No. 1. One person who remembered that quite clearly was rookie Rep. Dan Goldman, whose previous gig was lead counsel for the House Judiciary Committee in that very matter. He took Comer out for a walk.

Yep, another Karl Rove acolyte.

This troll is the philosophical heir to Joseph McCarthy.  And unfortunately, she has plenty of company in the current GOP.

Here's her problem with Roth:  "He permanently banned my Twitter account for a year during my election."

Leave aside how a year is not permanent, this woman is the worst kind of troll - an anti-semitic rabble rouser.  Roth can expect death threats, and maybe attempts.

He has already been harassed to the point of selling his home and moving.
[Roth] began by saying that the "Twitter Files" also affected more junior employees at Twitter, and that staff as far away as the Philippines were "doxxed, had their families threatened, and experienced harm equal to or greater than what I've experienced."

He added: "But concurrent with the 'Twitter Files,' Elon Musk also made the decision to share a defamatory allegation that I support or condone pedophilia and this lie led directly to a wave of homophobic and antisemitic threats and harassment against me of which Twitter has removed vanishingly little.

The "Committee" is now hounding him over his role at Twitter to the tune of Joe McCarthy's House UnAmerican Activities Committee in the 50s. We're in another very dark period of our country's history. I don't know how we get out of it.

The story behind Musk's Twitter crusade

The Hunter Biden laptop scandal.

Warning: This is a Jonathan Turley article.
As many of us have long suspected, there were back channels between Twitter and the Biden 2020 presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to ban critics or remove negative stories.

[...]

Obviously, bias in the media is nothing new to Washington; newspapers and networks have long run interference for favored politicians or parties. However, this was not a case of a media company spiking its own story to protect a pal. It was a social media company that supplies a platform for people to communicate with each other on political, social and personal views. Social media is now more popular as a form of communications than the telephone.

Censoring communications on Twitter is more akin to the telephone company agreeing to cut the connection of any caller using disfavored terms. And at the apparent request of the 2020 Biden campaign and the DNC, Twitter seems to have routinely stopped others from discussing or hearing opposing views.

[...]

Musk’s dumped Twitter documents not only confirm the worst expectations of some of us but feature many of the usual suspects for Twitter critics. The documents do not show a clear role or knowledge by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. Instead, the censor in chief appears to be Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s former chief legal officer who has been criticized as a leading anti-free speech figure in social media.

[...]

[T]he New York Post was suspended from Twitter for reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop scandal. Twitter even blocked users from sharing the Post’s story by using a tool designed for child pornography. Even Trump White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany was suspended for linking to the scandal.

[...]

Some Twitter executives expressed unease with censoring the story, including former global communications VP Brandon Borrman, who asked, “Can we truthfully claim that this is part of the policy?” [FBI general counsel James] Baker jumped in to support censorship and said, “It’s reasonable for us to assume that they may have been [hacked] and that caution is warranted.”

[...]

These documents show a back channel existed with President Biden’s campaign officials, but those same back channels appear to have continued to be used by Biden administration officials. If so, that would be when Twitter may have gone from a campaign ally to a surrogate for state censorship.

[...]

The incoming Republican House majority has pledged to investigate.

  The Hill
And this is why Trump wants to suspend the Constitution.
“So, with the revelation of MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION in working closely with Big Tech Companies, the DNC, & the Democrat Party, do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION?,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, the Twitter alternative that he founded.

“A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” he added. “Our great ‘Founder’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections.”

At least Christopher Steele is real

One month before a purported leak of files from Hunter Biden's laptop, a fake "intelligence" document about him went viral on the right-wing internet, asserting an elaborate conspiracy theory involving former Vice President Joe Biden's son and business in China.

The document, a 64-page composition that was later disseminated by close associates of President Donald Trump, appears to be the work of a fake "intelligence firm" called Typhoon Investigations, according to researchers and public documents.

The author of the document, a self-identified Swiss security analyst named Martin Aspen, is a fabricated identity, according to analysis by disinformation researchers, who also concluded that Aspen's profile picture was created with an artificial intelligence face generator.

  NBC
They simply don't care that they'll eventually get caught.
The intelligence firm that Aspen lists as his previous employer said that no one by that name had ever worked for the company and that no one by that name lives in Switzerland, according to public records and social media searches.

One of the original posters of the document, a blogger and professor named Christopher Balding, took credit for writing parts of it when asked about it and said Aspen does not exist.

[...]

The document and its spread have become part of a wider effort to smear Hunter Biden and weaken Joe Biden's presidential campaign, which moved from the fringes of the internet to more mainstream conservative news outlets.
Not on its own, it didn't.
An unverified leak of documents — including salacious pictures from what President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and a Delaware Apple repair store owner claimed to be Hunter Biden's hard drive — were published in the New York Post on Oct. 14. Associates close to Trump, including Giuliani and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, have promised more blockbuster leaks and secrets, which have yet to materialize.

The fake intelligence document, however, preceded the leak by months, and it helped lay the groundwork among right-wing media for what would become a failed October surprise: a viral pile-on of conspiracy theories about Hunter Biden.

[...]

Balding, an associate professor at Fulbright University Vietnam who studies the Chinese economy and financial markets, posted the document on his blog on Oct. 22, seven weeks after it was initially published.

"I had really not wanted to do this but roughly 2 months ago I was handed a report about Biden activities in China the press has simply refused to cover. I want to strongly emphasize I did not write the report but I know who did," Balding said in an email.

Balding later claimed to NBC News that he wrote some of the document.

[...]

Balding said Aspen is "an entirely fictional individual created solely for the purpose of releasing this report." Balding did not name the document's main author, saying "the primary author of the report, due to personal and professional risks, requires anonymity."
Does it rhyme with Stephen Miller? Or Rudy Giuliani? Or maybe Steve Bannon?
In addition to posting the document to his blog, Balding also promoted it in far-right media, appearing on Bannon's podcast and on "China Unscripted," a podcast produced by The Epoch Times, a pro-Trump media outlet opposed to the Chinese government.

[...]

Balding's blog was the primary driver of virality in conservative and conspiracy communities.

[...]

After the promise of a big reveal one day earlier, the document was also posted on the extremist forum 8kun by Q, the anonymous account behind the QAnon conspiracy theory movement.

On Twitter, the document was pushed by influencers in the QAnon community, as well as by Dinggang Wang, an anti-Chinese government YouTube personality who works for Guo Wengui, a billionaire who fled China amid accusations of bribery and other crimes. Republican Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House of Representatives, tweeted the document to his 2.3 million followers.

[...]

Elise Thomas, a researcher at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, first spotted telltale signs of a fake photo when she went searching for Typhoon Investigations' Aspen on the web.

[...]

Aspen's left iris juts out and appears to form a second pupil, a somewhat frequent error with computer-generated faces.

[...]

"The profile picture looks pretty convincing in the Twitter thumbnail, but when I popped it up into full view I was immediately suspicious."

[...]

Other parts of Aspen's identity were clearly stolen from disparate parts of the web. Aspen's Facebook page was created in August, and it featured only two pictures, both from his "new house," which were tracked back to reviews on the travel website Tripadvisor. The logo for Typhoon Investigations was lifted from the Taiwan Fact-Checking Center, a digital literacy nonprofit.

[...]

In December, Facebook took down a network of fake accounts using computer-created faces tied to The Epoch Times. Facebook removed over 600 accounts tied to the operation, which pushed pro-Trump messages and even served as moderators of some Facebook groups.

Last month, Facebook removed another batch of computer-generated profiles originating in China and the Philippines, some of which made anti-Trump posts.

Renee DiResta, a researcher at the Stanford Internet Observatory, said computer-created identities are becoming common for disinformation campaigns, in part because they are easy to create.

DiResta, who helped examine a ring of AI-generated faces tied to the conservative nonprofit Turning Point USA last month, said computer-generated profile pictures can be used to "build an army of fake people" to artificially support a cause or to make "disinformation operations harder to discover."
And they never give up....

You'll need brain bleach after this

All you have to do to know what Trump et al. are doing is to listen to what they accuse others of doing. Every. Damn. Time.
For the bulk of his career, [Sacha Baron] Cohen’s preoccupation has been using his elaborate personas—Ali G, Bruno, and of course, Borat Sagdiyev, the star of catchphrase-spawning Borat and its sequel debuting Friday on Amazon Prime, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm—to catch the wild American in their natural habitat, subjecting them to absurdity and catching their response on camera.

[...]

In most ways, the sequel follows the path of the original: Borat, misogynist boor, inflicts himself on the unsuspecting, goading them into admitting their own racism, sexism, or sheer stupidity. [...] But this time, Borat has a companion: his daughter Tutar (Maria Bakalova), a feral 15-year-old whose chief desire is to acquire a glorious “wife cage” like her idol, “Queen Melania.” Bakalova has the same nerves of steel as Cohen, seemingly incapable of embarrassment or shame. Together the duo attempt to find Pence and/or other members of the Trump administration, even as the coronavirus pandemic begins to sweep across America.

[...]

It’s that 2020 so rapidly outpaced its jokes. [...] [Y]ou can almost feel the bits and gags left on the table as the production scrambled to reorient the film around the pandemic. They do a good job tying up the loose ends of the narrative to make the story work, but it’s only at the very end that Borat discovers QAnon and interfaces with anti-maskers, who exceed expectations for the depraved sentiments you might expect them to espouse.

[...]

But as the world gets dumber and dumber, there seems to be a greater need for Cohen’s sneaky way of finding the funny—which has itself gotten more pointedly political over the last few years. Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is his first project after the Showtime docuseries Who Is America?, where his team managed to get former vice president Dick Cheney to autograph a “waterboarding kit.”

[...]

The most outrageous moment in the film is a clip already released in advance of premiere, in which Tutar accidentally ingests the plastic baby on top of a cupcake—then takes her woes to the Carolina Pregnancy Center, where a pastor named Jonathan Bright counsels that the baby is “living and breathing” inside her. Cohen intervenes, saying that he is her father, and he’s the one that put the baby there—oh, you see the excruciating place this is going. Later the pair go to a debutante ball, where one of the other fathers says Tutar is easily worth $500, and to a plastic surgeon, where they request that Tutar get augmentation to make her worthy of a “sex attack.” Together they are a cunningly well-laid trap for the worst sort of sexualized paternalism, and repeatedly, they find creeps ready to take the bait.

This comes to an astonishing head in the final escapade of the film. [...] Tutar sets up an interview with Rudy Giuliani. She meets the former mayor of New York and current adviser to the president in a hotel room, where he holds her hands, compliments her appearance, and follows her to the bedroom. She spends some time elaborately taking off their microphones; briefly, he lies down on the bed. His hand is in his pants. Watching it, your brain turns into an exclamation point. They are strategically interrupted before more transpires, but you cannot help wondering exactly what Giuliani may have done next. (Shortly after the event, which took place in July, Giuliani called the cops on Cohen.)

  Vanity Fair
This movie is coming out Friday. Which may be why Rudy went to the Post with his laptop photos of Hunter Biden in a rush.

In the film, released on Friday, the former New York mayor and current personal attorney to Donald Trump is seen reaching into his trousers and apparently touching his genitals while reclining on a bed in the presence of the actor playing Borat’s daughter, who is posing as a TV journalist.

[...]

After she removes his microphone, Giuliani, 76, can be seen lying back on the bed, fiddling with his untucked shirt and reaching into his trousers. They are then interrupted by Borat who runs in and says: “She’s 15. She’s too old for you.”

[...]

Word of the incident first emerged on 7 July, when Giuliani called New York police to report the intrusion of an unusually-dressed man.

“This guy comes running in, wearing a crazy, what I would say was a pink transgender outfit,” Giuliani told the New York Post. “It was a pink bikini, with lace, underneath a translucent mesh top, it looked absurd. He had the beard, bare legs, and wasn’t what I would call distractingly attractive.

“This person comes in yelling and screaming, and I thought this must be a scam or a shakedown, so I reported it to the police. He then ran away,” Giuliani said. The police found no crime had been committed.

  Guardian
LOL
Giuliani continued: “I only later realised it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen. I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn’t get me.”
I'm dying.
Even before he reaches into his trousers, Giuliani does not appear to acquit himself especially impressively during the encounter. Flattered and flirtatious, he drinks scotch, coughs, fails to socially distance and claims Trump’s speedy actions in the spring saved a million Americans from dying of Covid. He also agrees – in theory at least – to eat a bat with his interviewer.
Dear god.
Although unfortunate, the circumstances of the setup appear consensual, with Giuliani led to believe he was being courted. Bakalova, 24, is highly plausible in the sting, despite also having to pretend, for the benefit of viewers, to be a feral child posing as a far-right journalist.
But they didn't "get" Rudy.

LOLOLOLOLOL

Jeffrey Toobin is counting his lucky star.  (Not a typo.)

UPDATE:
Speaking to WABC radio that same month, Giuliani admitted that Baron Cohen was trying to capture him in a “compromising” situation. But when he was asked if he did anything that he might be “regretful” about, he replied, “I don’t think so, I’m trying to remember.”
