The gun lobby loves him, no doubt. Two bills introduced by [Missouri] state Rep. Andrew McDaniel would require residents to purchase firearms.
The Hill
Required to purchase an AR-15! Because a handgun is not enough, presumably. It's quite obvious that Representative Andrew McDaniel is out of his ever loving mind. Citizens of District 150 (Dunklin and Pemiscot Counties down in the bootheel): Are you people getting this? WTF? Are you approving? The first bill, the McDaniel Second Amendment Act, would require Missouri residents aged 21 or older to purchase a handgun. It also would allot up to $1 million per year in tax credits for residents who purchased weapons to comply with the law.
The second bill, the McDaniel Militia Act, was filed days after the handgun bill and would require Missouri residents aged 18 to 35 to purchase an AR-15. It also would provide a tax credit of up to $1 million per year to incentivize the purchase of weapons.
Oh, well, that's a relief. While the bills do not specify any penalties for adults who refuse to comply with the provisions, both stipulate that the Missouri Department of Revenue can "promulgate rules to implement the provisions of this section." The bills would sunset in six years if not extended by the state legislature.
They would not apply to felons or residents otherwise prohibited from owning firearms.
I should hope to fuck not. Both bills have received two readings in the Missouri House but have no hearings or further action scheduled so far, according to the state House's website.
Somebody needs to be watching this guy very closely.
...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
UPDATE:
Jesus Christ. Spend your time doing something to fix this shit, not engaging in ridiculous political theater.A Missouri lawmaker who’s introduced measures that would force adults to own handguns and young adults to own AR-15 semi-automatic rifles said he’s trying to make the point that mandates are bad and doesn’t actually want to require gun ownership.
“The other side of the aisle loves mandates, so I’m trying to get them to make an argument against mandates,” Republican state Rep. Andrew McDaniel, of the rural Bootheel community of Deering, said in a telephone interview.
The legislation comes amid a session in which a top aide to a Missouri state senator was arrested after a loaded gun fell to the floor during a fight at a Jefferson City bar. Two state House members also were involved in an incident at another Jefferson City bar that left one of them with a black eye. The incidents occurred after a House committee heard debate on legislation that would allow concealed weapons in public places that currently ban guns.
