Sorry, I missed this one

From January 24:

We are now firmly in the age of saying the quiet part out loud.
White House Opens a New Window. national security adviser John Bolton said it’s in America’s best interest to declare Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro illegitimate.

“We want to be sure that everyone on the political level around the world and at the business level, anybody who has interest in the Western Hemisphere, this is a potential major step forward to a lot of progress in our part of the world,” Bolton told FOX Business’ Stuart Varney Opens a New Window. on Thursday.

In the meantime, US sanctions are actually driving out businesses.
“Goodyear-Venezuela has made the difficult decision to stop producing tires,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement. “Our goal had been to maintain its operations, but economic conditions and U.S. sanctions have made this impossible. We appreciate and thank the Goodyear-Venezuela associates for their contributions and commitment under very difficult conditions.”

The plant is said to be open, but non-functioning, according to a report from Reuters.

The tiremaker is the latest in a string of companies to pull or scale back Venezuelan operations, which have become increasingly difficult to maintain under socialist President Nicolás Maduro’s government. Others that have fled include Kellogg, General Motors and Kimberly-Clark.

Goodyear is reportedly making severance payments and giving workers 10 tires each.

Wow. How fucking generous. Did Kimberly-Clark give them unsold toilet paper? Maybe the Kellogg workers were lucky and got some food at least. But I wouldn't bet on it.  Last year Kimberly Clark announced a restructuring in the US that cut over 5,000 jobs to increase profits.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
