US intercepts Russian bombers near Alaska

Two US jets intercepted a pair of Russian bombers in international airspace off the coast of Alaska early Friday morning, according to a statement from NORAD.

CNN reports that two Russian TU-95 "Bear" bombers were intercepted and turned back by US F-22 stealth fighters around 10 a.m. eastern time Friday morning.

If it's international airspace, how can they do this, and why did the Russians cooperate? Set up to make Trump look tough on Russia? Am I being too skeptical?
The jets never entered U.S. airspace, according to the report, and turned back after passing the Aleutian Islands.

The U.S. jets on Friday did not get closer then 100 meters to the Russian ones, according to Reuters.
Sounds like nothing happened. No interception. Just CNN reporting a NORAD statement to get you stirred up.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
