Trump platitudes about white supremacy

Presidential daughter Ivanka Trump tweeted her support for the eradication of white supremacy Sunday, calling it a "form of terrorism" after two mass shootings in under 14 hours.

"As our nation mourns the senseless loss of life in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, and prays for the victims and their loved ones, we must also raise our voices in rejection of these heinous and cowardly acts of hate, terror and violence," she said on Twitter. "White supremacy, like all other forms of terrorism, is an evil that must be destroyed."

Commenters immediately jumped on the First Daughter with suggestions that she tag her father, President Trump, given his penchant for fueling divisive attitudes, and immigration policies that have sequestered undocumented migrants in squalid conditions at the U.S.-Mexico border.

We don't imagine, however, that she reads any comments to her tweets.
President Trump offered condolences after mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, this weekend, telling reporters in Morristown, New Jersey: "Hate has no place in our country and we're gonna take care of it."

"This has been going for years. For years and years and we have to get it stopped. Perhaps more has to be done. This is also a mental illness problem. These are people who are very, very seriously mentally ill."

He was forced to say it, well after the first incident occurred, and he worked in a qualified "perhaps more has to be done," so he'll be walking this back somehow. And, he won't stop tweeting hateful screeds nor inciting hateful chants at his rallies, or harping on the "invasion" at our southern border, you can bet your bottom dollar. He'll just bear down harder calling Democrats hateful, retweeting white supremacists, and signaling his support to them.

Also, he didn't mention white supremacy. *

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.

*He did mention it in a scripted teleprompted speech later:

More on that bizarre speech here.
