Our children are fed up

Students said Sunday they’re organizing an event called “March for Our Lives,” scheduled to be held March 24. There are also nationwide walkouts being organized on March 14 and April 20.

“My message for people in office is you’re either with us or against us. We are losing our lives while the adults are playing around,” Cameron Kasky, a student who survived the shooting, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“This isn’t about the GOP, this isn’t about the Democrats, this is about us creating a badge of shame for any politicians accepting money from the NRA and using us as collateral,” he added.

It can only be a good thing if our youth become politically active. We've had a very long run of disengaged citizenship. I just hope these kids don't get completely turned off by the corruption in politics or co-opted by a political party before they see any encouraging results of their activism.

GUILDENSTERN: What a fine persecution---to be kept intrigued without ever quite being enlightened.

PLAYER: Relax. Respond. That's what people do. You can't go through life questioning your situation at every turn.

GUILDENSTERN: But we don't know what's going on, or what to do with ourselves. We don't know how to act.

PLAYER: Act natural. You know why you're here at least.

GUILDENSTERN: We only know what we're told, and that's little enough. And for all we know it isn't even true.

PLAYER: For all anyone knows, nothing is. Everything has to be taken on trust; truth is only that which is taken to be true. It's the currency of living. There may be nothing behind it, but it doesn't make any difference so long as it is honoured. One acts on assumptions.
