The Mueller Special Team

The powerhouse team of lawyers assigned to the multi-pronged federal investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election has metastasized to include 15 members.

Plucked from the Justice Department and white-collar law firms by special counsel Robert Mueller, the attorneys boast years of experience prosecuting cases involving national security, fraud, money laundering, cybercrime and espionage. There are experts in witness-flipping, Russia, organized crime and public corruption. Several have worked with Mueller in the past.

Note the specialties and previous cases of each of these attorneys. That should give us a clue as to where Mueller is headed.

I will just note that Andrew Weissmann worked on a Felix Sater case that turned Russian gangster Sater into an informant. And as we have seen, Sater, who was involved in Trump organization dealings, has just been reported to agree to testifying in a money laundering investigation into Trump property.

GUILDENSTERN: We only know what we're told, and that's little enough. And for all we know it isn't even true.

PLAYER: For all anyone knows, nothing is. Everything has to be taken on trust; truth is only that which is taken to be true. It's the currency of living. There may be nothing behind it, but it doesn't make any difference so long as it is honoured. One acts on assumptions.
