Why Do They Hate Us?

President Obama said in his May 23 national security speech that “by narrowly targeting our action against those who want to kill us and not the people they hide among, we are choosing the course of action [drones] least likely to result in the loss of innocent life.” Lawrence Lewis, a researcher at the Center for Naval Analyses, found this to be untrue.

Seventeen people were killed in a strike in Pakistan on Wednesday, and while Pakistani officials have claimed the victims were members of a militant group, their identities are still unknown.

Civilians are ten times more likely to be killed by drones that other warfare, according to the study.

PLAYER: Act natural. You know why you're here at least.

GUILDENSTERN: We only know what we're told, and that's little enough. And for all we know it isn't even true.

PLAYER: For all anyone knows, nothing is. Everything has to be taken on trust; truth is only that which is taken to be true. It's the currency of living. There may be nothing behind it, but it doesn't make any difference so long as it is honoured. One acts on assumptions.
