New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will no longer spend Saturday campaigning for Donald Trump in the Granite State, a decision that comes 24 hours after a federal jury convicted two of Christie's top aides on charges related to the George Washington "Bridgegate" scandal.

"But let me be clear once again," he [said]. "I had no knowledge prior to or during these lane realignments, and had no role in authorizing them ... anything said to the contrary over the past six weeks in court is simply untrue."

Christie had planned four appearances in Windham, Salem, Exeter and Stratham on behalf of the Republican presidential nominee, who was shown polling competitively here in a spate of polls released just before the weekend. The four-stop tour would have been Christie's first return to the campaign trail since Trump was caught making sexually explicit comments about women in a decade-old audio tape released last month.
