It Must Be Campaign Season

Like they have nothing better to do.
David Cameron begins a four-day visit to the US with an evening spent watching Barack Obama's favourite sport, basketball. The game [...] was played in Dayton, Ohio. The president had to explain the game to the prime minister .

Which could be argued to be a small point in Cameron's favor.

Look! We're just like you regular Joes who don't care – perhaps don't even know – what's going on in the world. Vote for me!

They went to Ohio to watch a basketball game. A rather expensive photo op.

[...]

I don't think I've seen any video of the president looking like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Nothing to indicate that he wastes any time in contemplation of the gravity of his situation and its import to the entire world, aside from some well-written speeches he pulls out for campaign season and a very few words of regret for the latest military obscenity. He may as well do the George Bush thing, and say something like, "Now watch this drive," after he delivers those speeches.

Do these men lose any sleep over the thousands of lives they destroy every single day of theirs? They never appear to. Do they ever even spend any time thinking about it? Not that you can see, anyway.
