Who the hell are the many who are shocked? Did they not actually read his work? Did they never see an interview?A new biography of acclaimed American author Kurt Vonnegut, beloved by fans worldwide for his work's warm humour and homespun Midwestern wisdom, has shocked many with a portrayal of a bitter, angry man prone to depression and fits of temper.
UK Guardian
We know Vonnegut was depressed and bitter. He would have had to be lobotomized not to be after what he experienced in his lifetime. We love him all the same, and perhaps a little more, since even with that depression and bitterness, he continued throughout his life to attempt to make sense of and contribute to the effort to improve the world. He wasn’t a saint. But he wasn’t deceptive. He was a decent human being grappling with the reality of an embittering world and sometimes not doing so well. And he knew it.
And so it goes.
Bless you, Kurt Vonnegut, wherever you are, warts and all.
