Regarding Today's St. Louis Officer-Involved Shooting

Update: Police now ID him as black man, age 23. He had taken two energy drinks and pastries from the shop and was outside, pacing. Cops arrived and when he displayed knife and approached they shot him from the car. No further word on taser option. @AntonioFrench urging calm, saying "St. Louis not Ferguson," and State Sen. Nasheed does the same.

No. Wait. They shot him from their car? He had a knife. Couldn’t they have rolled up the window???!!

[Chief Sam Dotson with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department] says one officer got out of the patrol car, and when the suspect displayed his knife, the officers drew their weapons.

According to Dotson, the suspect walked toward the officer still sitting in the patrol car, and when he moved between three and four feet from the vehicle holding the knife, both officers fired their weapons, striking him.

The officers, who were still in the patrol vehicle, say the suspect yelled, "Shoot me now, kill me now."

So.  They did.  Talk about hair trigger.  Good God.



UPDATE:  Witness video.  The story isn't quite like the police claimed.  Surprised?
