Trump 2.0 - Shunning science

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the nation’s largest private funder of biomedical research, yesterday killed a $60 million program aimed at making universities’ science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education more inclusive.

The scores of awardees of the Inclusive Excellence Program at 104 institutions received emails yesterday from HHMI President Erin O’Shea and Vice President Blanton Tolbert announcing they will be getting no more payments for 6-year awards that are now in their third years. HHMI, which has an endowment of nearly $26 billion, offered no explanation in the email for the abrupt closure of the program, which also vanished from the institute’s website.

This is awful. It's government push against anything that works for anyone other than white men. But I do have a question: Didn't Howard leave enough of an endowment to make government funding unnecessary?
