Tariff Man strikes again

[T]he Trump administration [declared] Wednesday that it will impose 25 percent tariffs on certain EU agricultural exports and 10 percent tariffs on European-brand aircraft starting on Oct. 18.

The tariffs follow a decision this week by a World Trade Organization (WTO) arbitrator allowing the U.S. to impose tariffs on up $7.5 billion in European goods.

The tariffs will cover a litany of European goods, including wine, cheese, olives, Irish and Scotch whiskies, pork, cookies, clothing, tools, machines and other industrial products from Europe.

The French government Thursday announced it will respond with “retaliatory measures.”

PLAYER: Act natural. You know why you're here at least.

GUILDENSTERN: We only know what we're told, and that's little enough. And for all we know it isn't even true.

PLAYER: For all anyone knows, nothing is. Everything has to be taken on trust; truth is only that which is taken to be true. It's the currency of living. There may be nothing behind it, but it doesn't make any difference so long as it is honoured. One acts on assumptions.
