And Furthermore...

Saying that "these Americans have done absolutely nothing wrong," the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations this morning called on Egypt to immediately allow 19 U.S. citizens to leave that country and to drop plans to accuse them of illegally funding groups that oppose Egypt's ruling military regime.

Further, on NPR radio this morning, the radio journalist quoted Ms. Rice as saying, “They were just trying to promote democracy.” Truly? Let’s think about that for three seconds or so.

We think that democracy is the bee’s knees, but there are lots of people who think communism is the truly human system. What would Ms. Rice be saying about a Russian sponsored and organized group in this country “just trying to promote” communism? In fact, in this country, if you’re “just trying to promote” socialism, you are walking a fine line between freedom and state-sponsored harassment. And, please, don’t even think of “just trying to promote” Sharia law. You’ll be lucky to just be jailed.

Unless you don’t define illegal to be wrong, if it’s illegal in Egypt to fund groups that oppose their ruling regime, then it’s not true that the “Americans have done absolutely nothing wrong," now is it? Oh, yes, who are we talking about? An American official – indeed one who does not define illegal as wrong.  Frankly, I don't define illegal as wrong, either.  But I also don't advocate going to another country and doing something that is illegal in that country and then expecting to be let free.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
