The only reason I can think of (aside from the fact that they're stupid) that they keep doing this kind of shit is that they believe the president is above the law, can fire anyone for any reason, is not required to testify, and can pardon anyone, including himself. They don't think there will be any legal - or political - consequences. I saw a headline recently that said Trump was running the country, not like a president, but like a CEO. No, he's not. He's running it like a modern day mafia boss.
...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
