Gold medal Olympic swimmer Cameron van der Burgh admitted to cheating in his 2012 world record win in the 2012 London Games Sunday. After winning in the 100-meter breaststroke, he said 99% of the competitors break the rules due to loopholes, leaving him no other choice.

Van der Burgh, based on underwater footage, is seen using at least three dolphin kicks before coming to the surface. However, because there are no cameras monitoring the actual live race, swimmers are able to cheat their way to victory.

Screw the lot of them. And why does he still have that medal?"I think every single swimmer does that. At the point in time before the 'fly kick' was legal [when swimmers weren’t allowed any dolphin kicks at all], [Japan’s four-time Olympic gold medallist Kosuke] Kitajama was doing it."

"For instance for me, the 50m breaststroke last year [at the world championships] I lost the 50m breaststroke because another Brazilian swimmer [Felipe Frana Silva] did [the kick] and beat me."

Van der Burgh won the 100m breaststroke final on Sunday night in world record time, beating Australia’s Christian Sprenger and lowering the mark previously held by Australia’s Brenton Rickard. But underwater footage of the event clearly shows van der Burgh taking three dolphin kicks at the start of the event before surfacing.

"I think it’s pretty funny of the Australians to complain because in the underwater footage if you actually look at Brenton Rickard in the lane next to me, he’s doing the exact same thing as me yet they’re turning a blind eye."
