What would make it even worse?

Not dead yet

That's a little early for him, isn't it?  Does this mean he won't be bleating at 2 in the morning?

Wait...

Did he get up and go back to bed?

August 30: International Day of the Disappeared

The U.S. has now joined other lawless countries in political disappearances.

UPDATE 03:11 pm:

Prediction: things are gonna go sideways in Chicago next week

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will sign an executive order Saturday laying out initial plans for how the city will try to resist President Donald Trump’s planned immigration crackdown in the coming days.

[...]

The mayor’s order “affirms” that Chicago police will not “collaborate with federal agents on joint law enforcement patrols, arrest operations, or other law enforcement duties including civil immigration enforcement.”

The order also “urges” federal law enforcement officers who operate in Chicago “to refrain from wearing masks, to wear and use body cameras and to identify themselves to members of the public with names and badge numbers.”

  CNN
They won't cooperate with that.
Johnson reiterated the city’s police force will be required to wear attire that clearly identifies them.

Johnson’s order also directs city departments to “pursue all available legal and legislative avenues to resist coordinated efforts from the federal government” that violate the rights of Chicagoans.

The mayor’s order ultimately demands Trump “stand down” from deploying military forces to Chicago for immigration enforcement – but it’s not clear how effective it will be in stopping Trump’s plans.
Let me guess.

Meanwhile

Rumors

JD Vance told an audience that he's absolutely capable of taking the helm if anything happened to Trump, and Trump cancelled a golf date. Social media is awash with "ghoulposting" Trump's death.

They could get Gavin Newsom's press office to write them.

He may go out to play golf, but he's not "perfectly fine."

UPDATE 03:13 pm:

Definitely not looking "well".

But no restraints on guns

Cue the MAGA ridicule

Just what Mamdani is proposing for New York.  Let's see if this gets the same ridicule.

States may pick up the slack

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a series of moves Wednesday that will limit who is eligible for COVID vaccines even though the stratus variant is surging.

Patients who now want to get the COVID vaccines will first have to consult with their doctor rather than booking directly with a pharmacy, adding another step to the process.

[...]

The FDA approved an updated Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine for adults 65 and older.

Younger people, between 5 and 64, are eligible if they have at least one underlying health condition putting them at high risk for severe outcomes from the virus.

[...]

The Trump administration also recently pulled funding for the development of mRNA (messenger RNA) vaccines, which were crucial in the response to COVID-19.

[...]

An advisory committee to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to vote within weeks to recommend COVID vaccines.

  Axios
And then they'll all be dismissed.

If Blue states are going to have greater expenses to make up for the lack of federal assistance, perhaps they should start figuring out how to withhold federal taxes that otherwise get distributed to Red states.

Chicago mayor responds to Trump's threat

Mayor Brandon Johnson decried President Donald Trump as inhumane following reports of a major immigration sweep starting imminently in Chicago. Speaking at a North Side town hall, the mayor again warned it would be “unconstitutional” and “illegal” for the federal government to send troops to patrol the city’s streets and vowed to uphold Chicago’s long-standing sanctuary city policy for immigrants.

“The city of Chicago is emphatically clear that we do not want our streets occupied by federal troops,” Johnson said. “Unless there’s a warrant, these federal agents do not have the right and the authority to bullguard their way through our institutions, and we’re going to do everything in our power to make sure that we stand up to tyranny.”

They know they don't have to be logical

Funny then that the government has cut - and the Republicans never support - funding for mental health care.

Johnson on the spot

Eventually he says it's not his call.

Disgraceful and outrageous

Assume this will be loudly protested.

A future Democratic administration should dig her up and put her somewhere else.

Way to go Chuck

Can Chuck just retire, please?  That is precisely the way to get Trump to keep RFKJ.

More reason...
I’ve been at a loss for anything novel to write about Graham Platner, the buzzy oysterman who’s running for the Democratic Senate nomination in Maine.

[...]

Watching throngs of Mainers heckle and boo Collins, though, and reflecting on her plummeting approval polls, I realized there is a point worth making: Chuck Schumer should accept defeat here. He should stop trying to recruit Janet Mills, the state’s 77-year-old governor, or anyone else to run against Platner. He should definitely not try to recruit Jared Golden—the Maine House Democrat who wants to write the filibuster into the Constitution. He should give up on his dream of recruiting some more seasoned politician of the kind Collins has defeated every six years for a bajillion cycles in a row, and give everyone in the Democratic coalition a fair and unspoiled test of left-populist appeal.

  Off Message
Amen!
If Schumer were to clear the field for Platner—or, simply abandon his effort to run Platner off—it would spare Democrats another recriminatory cycle of factional infighting and give everyone a bit more clarity on where to go from here.

He can beat Susan Collins.  Let him cook.

Waste, fraud and abuse

Remember that expensive, wasteful military parade that President Trump forced on everyone in June? Now our dear leader wants a redo—by sea.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the U.S. Navy is planning a larger parade for this fall after the president told aides he was “disappointed” by the marching and paltry attendance. The second parade is reportedly to celebrate the Navy’s 250th anniversary, much like the summer parade was focused on the anniversary of the U.S. Army.

[...]

It’s unclear what else will be different about this parade aside from the personnel. If Trump was upset by the lack of turnout at his earlier parade, especially after comparing it to the March on Washington, it’s unclear how the Navy would change that.

They'll pay people to attend.

School library book bans in a nutshell

Trump Nazis literally burning it all down

Trump and MAGA have turned the country over to the cruelest, most rapacious, and least honorable among us and directed the force of the state against firefighters, aid workers, civil servants, and children. And DHS is now spending millions to expand its numbers with the sort of individuals eager to do such ignoble work.

[...]

This past Wednesday, the Seattle Times reported that Customs and Border Patrol agents interrupted two crews of firefighters working to control the Bear Gulch wildfire. They lined them up, checked IDs, and ultimately arrested multiple men.

The scene is galling—firefighters sitting on logs as federal agents prevent them from doing the crucial and courageous work of fighting Washington’s largest active wildfire. The treatment reported by the crew is enraging.

[...]

We are a nation with a bully-in-chief, an ogre of hate and pettiness who feeds off of the suffering of others. The tools of rule are violence, humiliation, and fear. And the only people who can now make careers of government work are those willing to ply this trade.

Even SCOTUS didn't want this

I'm waiting for the announcement that he fired Powell, and the immediate response of a lawsuit.

America, this is your president

“We send hundreds of millions of gallons of water a day to the Pacific Ocean. They turn a valve and the valve heads out. And we turned the valve back.”

Critics were fired up when he added, “I actually had to do it using force. We turned the valve back and now they have water.”

  Inquisitr
Good god. I THINK he means he used the force of the federal government to make them turn the valve, and not that he physically turned it himself. Either way, there is no valve.

Clueless

He wants to be begged. And the hilarious part is he thinks these cities want him.

Somebody tell DOGE

Surely Trump's judges at the Supreme Court will save it.

America is one new virus away from a disaster movie

UPDATE 08/29/2025:

On Thursday evening, Dr. Demetre Daskalakis—who recently resigned from a high-level role at the Centers for Disease Control—revealed a jarring fact about Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. According to Daskalakis, Kennedy has never been briefed by any of the center’s scientists on major diseases.

Daskalakis was one of numerous top CDC officials to leave their post this week after Kennedy fired the agency’s director for refusing to “rubberstamp unscientific, reckless directives and fire dedicated health experts,” per the ousted director’s lawyers. Stepping down as director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory, Daskalakis cited the CDC’s transformation under RFK Jr. into a “tool to generate policies and materials that do not reflect scientific reality and are designed to hurt rather than to improve the public’s health.”

[...]

“He’s getting information from somewhere, but that information is not coming from CDC experts,” Daskalakis continued. “CDC is the preeminent public health organization, I’m going to say, in the world. And he’s not taking us up on several offers to brief him on these very important topics.”

[...]

On Thursday, the American Public Health Association issued a statement condemning Kennedy’s move to fire the CDC director, as well as his dangerous anti-vaccine sentiments and actions, and his other “misguided efforts to overhaul the public health system based on myths and pseudoscience.”
