Take America to the past again

Where Donald Trump felt successful and people clamored for opportunities to be seen with him, and he was throwing (other people's) money around and threatening lawsuits and walking all over people.

That's the gist of his MAGA slogan. He wants to be back there. The world is leaving him behind, and he can't stand it.

President Trump on Monday called for cutting spending at the National Science Foundation (NSF), the government's top funder of nonmedical research, by about $1 billion.

The NSF provides about one-quarter of all federal research grants and covers fields such as engineering, mathematics, computer science and social sciences. It also funds the purchase of large-scale scientific equipment.

Trump's 2020 budget proposal also calls for dramatically reducing funding for education, agriculture, health programs, transportation and the State Department.

Congress has largely ignored Trump's previous requests for deep discretionary budget cuts and has steadily increased NSF funding levels in recent years.

PLAYER: Relax. Respond. That's what people do. You can't go through life questioning your situation at every turn.

GUILDENSTERN: But we don't know what's going on, or what to do with ourselves. We don't know how to act.

PLAYER: Act natural. You know why you're here at least.

GUILDENSTERN: We only know what we're told, and that's little enough. And for all we know it isn't even true.

PLAYER: For all anyone knows, nothing is. Everything has to be taken on trust; truth is only that which is taken to be true. It's the currency of living. There may be nothing behind it, but it doesn't make any difference so long as it is honoured. One acts on assumptions.
