It's Getting Loud Down Here

The  annual Lone Star Motorcycle Rally will draw tens of thousands of bad-ass machines to roar around the island for the next three days. (Maybe tens of thousands; word is that almost a half million people attended last year's festivities.) If you live in the central and east areas of Galveston, you will not be watching any TV - or sleeping, in some places - until Sunday night.

If you want a motel room, you should have had it booked long ago, and if you wanted to do any sleeping in it, you'd have to drink more heavily than the people in all the other rooms.

I can't begrudge them, though. After Hurricane Ike knocked us back into the stone age, instead of moving their venue, they postponed the rally another month to give us a little more time to get things running and held it here (as they do every year) because they wanted to help support the local businesses who were trying to get back on their feet. These folks do a lot of good things, including donations to the public library. So let 'em roar. The crazy bastards.
