Now that Obama has publicly admitted that "we tortured some folks," it's apparently ok to use the word.[F]rom now on, The Times will use the word “torture” to describe incidents in which we know for sure that interrogators inflicted pain on a prisoner in an effort to get information.

Or at least it should be. I doubt if the NYT executive director can be embarrassed - judging by his reasoning.
