Check out this Democracy Now segment with Stephen Cohen, professor of Russian studies discussing what's happening in Russia vis-a-vis the massive public protests, and how the US media and official line on it is wrong. He makes the case for something I've believed since the demise of the Soviet Union - that Yeltsin and the Russian oligarchs of the 90s were Washington's wet dream for Russia (which didn't go well for either the US or the Russian people, surprise, surprise, only for a handful of very wealthy crooks), but that the true movement toward democracy was instigated by Gorbachev.
...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
