Why does Mitt Romney pretend to identify with "middle class" people? It seems to me that "middle class" people support the one percent above their own. Or if he's trying for the tea party, hell, George W had no problem getting their vote, and as Molly Ivins famously said, George was born with a silver foot in his mouth. But then, I guess Romney being a Mormon causes some problems with the tea party.
Still, I think if Mitt took a page from W and donned some plaid shirts and steel toed boots out on the campaign trail, that would be enough. A little twang in his accent wouldn't hurt. It's all about the image. In fact, if in the above photo he had on that Carhartt jacket Ricky Perry wears around, he'd carry the South. Filthy rich is fine, you just need to have the proper attire. And buy a ranch for some photo ops, dude. It can be an oil ranch. Maybe in 2016 we will be so flat busted we'll be beyond the need to look all folksy, but we're not quite there yet.As CEO of Bain Capital, which specialized in buying and then gutting companies, firing employees by the thousands and in some cases then rehiring them at lower wages and with fewer benefits, [Mitt Romney] obviously relished wielding the pink slip. After all, it made him not just rich but filthy rich.

Romney's efforts to brand himself a great friend of the middle class, which he did again last night in his victory speech, are beyond silly. And stupid because they further expose him to attacks that threaten to undermine his campaign.

Although...
PS...plaid up some of those kids, too. Preppy sweaters and khakis are a bigger problem than suits.
