This Kind of Case

The US soldier accused of killing 16 Afghan villagers in a pre-dawn shooting spree has been flown out to Kuwait from  Afghanistan.

"We do not have appropriate detention facilities in Afghanistan," Kirby said, explaining that he was referring to a facility for a US service member "in this kind of case".

No, I guess not.

So Leon Panetta flew to Afghanistan to talk to Karzai and to give a pep talk to the US troops.
The US marines who gathered at the tent to hear Panetta were asked to leave their weapons outside.
They don't even trust the soldiers to not kill their own leaders, but they're telling the world this latest killing was just another aberration.

Also, there was an attempted attack on the runway near the base when Panetta landed. The report doesn't say who made the attempt.
