We've changed the definition of freedom. Independent press is for losers. We have dear leader. He tells it like it is.A new proposal is making the rounds in the U.S. that would limit the terms of foreign correspondents [...] to eight months.
Messing with the accreditation of foreign media correspondents has a long, ignominious history, at least in authoritarian or authoritarian-leaning regimes. Has it come to this, in the freedom-loving United States?

Which is exactly the point. So why does it matter if the term of a correspondent is shortened to eight months?
Because journalism that isn’t stenography requires an in-depth understanding of the system it reports on. That takes time. It requires the cultivation of contacts, people inside who blow whistles, provide leads, verify claims. These people are often in vulnerable positions. Speaking to a reporter in these instances requires trust and confidence-building, and that doesn’t happen quickly. Equally, it takes time for a journalist to develop trust in their sources.

A constant in and out of journalists would in many cases ensure those contacts and contexts are not developed. The result would be stories not told.
I have a question: Will american reporters then be treated the same in other countries?
Looking more and more like North Korea every day.
...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
