Cartoonist Clay Jones Calls It

Unfortunately, the discussion around the Charlie Hebdo murders has almost forgotten the twelve murdered people, and has become all about "freedom of speech". And so, with a reminder that there are actually people whose lives have been violently uprooted in an increasingly violent and gun-friendly world, here is, in a nutshell, the lesson on freedom of speech we should all be getting, but aren't.
A good cartoonist, or any satire, is not to offend people. It’s to put out a viewpoint that makes people think and often challenge readers. If a reader chooses to be offended then that’s a byproduct, a byproduct no publication should be afraid of. If a cartoonist is only working to offend, then he’s not a cartoonist. He’s a troll.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
