Way back in 1998, I kept having little mental suggestions - drop in thoughts, if you will - that said, "We're going to be re-doing the Hitler years." It certainly wasn't apparent from the current events - at least not to me - and I couldn't use the information, so it seemed like a wasted warning. Perhaps it was 2017 bleeding through into the past. And perhaps it was my own (necessary) interpretation, but I always added a rider: "To give us a chance to get it right this time." I'm not feeling very optimistic about that possibility.
It seems politics in every European (or once European colonized) country is taking a turn to the right. It seems very strange, though, to have "populism" now mean fascism, when it used to be equated with Debs socialism.
And scary.
Well, perhaps the world will at least get another period of great literature out of it one day.
...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
