Get Real, Gov

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) on Saturday warned residents of the state in Hurricane Irma’s path to “evacuate now.”

“Not tonight, not in an hour, you need to go right now. If you’re in an evacuation zone, leave,” Scott said in a press conference. “This is a catastrophic storm. We’ve never seen this before.”

And does the governor have a workable plan for evacuating an entire fucking state?
“You will not survive all this storm surge,” Scott said. “This is a life-threatening situation.”
That's helpful, Rick.

I can tell you what's going to happen if they all try to leave: gas stations will run out of petrol, hotels across state lines will run out of vacancies.  Then what?  I'll tell you what:  people will die sitting on the highway.  Ask Texans about Rita.
In the Houston area, the muddled flight from the city killed almost as many people as Rita did. an estimated 2.5 million people hit the road ahead of the storm’s arrival, creating some of the most insane gridlock in U.S. history. More than 100 evacuees died in the exodus. Drivers waited in traffic for 20-plus hours, and heat stroke impaired or killed dozens. Fights broke out on the highway. A bus carrying nursing home evacuees caught fire, and 24 died.

Call ahead. Make sure they still have space. Expect the worst, space or not.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
