Update on Chelsea Manning

U.S. soldier Chelsea Manning, serving a 35-year prison term for passing classified files to WikiLeaks, ended her hunger strike Tuesday after the Army said she will receive treatment for her gender dysphoria, the American Civil Liberties Union said.

That was quick. How many of her jailers wish they could treat her like a Guantanamo prisoner and force feed instead?

Manning's treatment will begin with a surgery that was recommended by her psychologist in April, the ACLU, which represented Manning, said in a statement. Manning is held in Kansas.

Fatal accidents can happen during surgery.

PLAYER: Act natural. You know why you're here at least.

GUILDENSTERN: We only know what we're told, and that's little enough. And for all we know it isn't even true.

PLAYER: For all anyone knows, nothing is. Everything has to be taken on trust; truth is only that which is taken to be true. It's the currency of living. There may be nothing behind it, but it doesn't make any difference so long as it is honoured. One acts on assumptions.
