Maybe If You Say It Enough Times

President Obama on Wednesday declared al Qaeda to be "on the way to defeat" despite the new threat from the group that was intercepted by intelligence agencies.

"Al Qaeda’s top ranks have been hammered," Obama said during a speech at Camp Pendelton, Calif. "The core of al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan is on the way to defeat."

  The Hill
Al Qaeda’s last throes, as Big Dick Cheney called it back in 2005, have been going on for quite some time, eh? Does rewording it to “on the way to defeat” actually change the reality? Real humans would be embarrassed to trot that out again. To borrow from The Princess Bride – "You keep saying that. I do not think that word means what you think it means." You just closed down 20 American embassies and posts and put out a no-travel warning. That doesn’t sound very defeating. Well, at least not for al Qaeda.

And real humans would also be too embarrassed to give this speech that the Manchurian Candidate trotted out for the umpteenth time:
"Here's what those who cowardly attack civilians do not get. The United States will never retreat from the world," Obama said.

"We do not get terrorized. We're going to keep standing up to our enemies [and] we're going to keep standing up for the security of our citizens," Obama told the nearly 3,000 Marines in attendance.

"The United States of America is going to remain the greatest force for freedom that the world has ever known," he added.
Please. The rest of the world wonders when was the last time we looked in a mirror every time some pontificating politico trots out that old saw. And we are TOTALLY terrorized. Terrorized into turning ourselves into a full-fledged police state if we aren’t careful. If we aren't already there.

...but hey, do what you want...you will anyway.
